Formerly known as Czechoslovakia during Communist rule, the landlocked Czech Republic has two major wine producing regions, Moravia and Bohemia. Its diverse soils, humid continental climate, and the effect of the Vltava River allow the country to grow varieties like Veltlínske Zelene (Grüner Veltliner), Müller-Thurgau, Ryzlink Vlašský (Welshriesling), Frankovka (Blaufränkisch) and Svatovavřinecké (St. Laurent).
