Serbia – a Balkan country once a part of Yugoslavia until 1992 (it gained full independence in 2006) – has a long and rich history of winegrowing and winemaking that dates back to Roman times. Although the country is landlocked, the Velika Morava River running north to south provides temperature moderation. Wineries in nine regions produce both native and international varieties like Morava, Probus, Prokupac, Tamjanika, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Syrah.
