While the family’s winemaking tradition in the Iván Valley of Hungary’s Szekszárd region dates back four generations, János Németh is considered one of the area's young, up-and-coming producers. Farming around 10-12 hectares of vineyards (Iván Valley, Porkoláb, Görögszó, Gyűszű, Decsi, Baranya, and Gurovica-tető) and utilising native yeast fermentation and Hungarian oak ageing, János specialises in fruity and spicy international reds like Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Syrah; traditional Szekszárdi cuvées like Bikavér (Kékfrankos, Kadarka and Zweigelt, Cabernet Franc); full-bodied Zweigelt; and juicy Riesling and Chardonnay.

Németh János 'deVerto' Cabernet Franc 2020, Szekszárd, Hungary
This red is like a bowlful of cherries
From a single vineyard in Szekszárd – Görögszó – comes this uncommon single-variety Cabernet Franc from János, one of his bistro series wines. It is fermented in an open vat then rests for 14 months in second- and third-fill barrels, resulting in an intensely flavourful red with abundant cherry and peppery spice notes. It’s an ideal match for dishes like beef, lamb, venison, and hearty meat stews.

Németh János 'Deviant' Syrah 2022, Szekszárd, Hungary
The sultry Syrah you’ve been longing for
János’ Syrah – from his bistro wines lineup – comes from two vineyards in Szekszárd, Görögszó and Alsónána, planted in 2004. The wine is fermented in an open vat and undergoes reductive ageing in gently used barrels to prevent exposure to oxygen. One of the winery’s most popular wines, it’s visually deep and dark. But on the palate, bold berry and peppery spice lightly dance together through this Syrah’s long finish. Pair this beauty with beef, lamb, pork, and game meats.
